Fabric covered bangles

fabric covered bangles
There are 2 methods for making fabric bracelets, one involves wrapping fabric around the bracelet, the other involves gluing a strip of fabric onto a bracelet and folding the edges into the inside of the bracelet.

Fabric wrapped bracelet

This is a super quick and easy accessory to make, either as a gift or as a little something to set off your outfit.

Materials:
Fabric
Scissors
Plastic bangle
Glue gun
Iron - optional

Cut a strip of cloth 1.5inches wide by aprrox 1 mtr long

Fold it in half lengthways and iron the fold.  This ironed fold gives you a neat edge.

Turn on your glue gun and put a splodge of glue on the inside of the bangle and glue one end of length of fabric to the glue.

Wrap the fabric strip around your bangle til it is completely covered.  Taking care to wrap it so that you only see the neat edge of the fabric and the rough edge is hidden.

Once you have covered the whole bangle, pop another splodge of glue on the inside of the bangle again and glue your loose fabric end to the inside of the bangle.

The other method requires a piece of cloth approx 25cm by 10cm, scissors, a plastic bangle and some PVA glue.

Cut the fabric so that it is 2cm longer than the length of your bangle and 2 x as wide as the width of your bangle.

Smother your bangle in PVA glue.  glue your piece of fabric onto the bangle tucking the raw edges inside the bangle, smooth any lumps and bumps down with your fingers.  Apply another coat of glue to seal the fabric.  Don't worry if it looks messy at first as the glue should dry clear.

Use a hairdryer to part-dry your bangle - this will get rid of the stickiness of the glue and then you can leave the bangle to fully dry overnight on a tray somewhere.
